What We’re Looking For:

Are you a passionate Sign Language Interpreter ready to empower students and schools? Here’s what you’ll need to join our team:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certification: Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent is required. Colorado Educator Certification is not mandatory for this role.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), is a plus.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in ASL is essential. Bilingual skills in other languages are preferred but not required.
  • Additional Requirements: CPR certification is preferred.

Your Role:

As an Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a critical role in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating effective communication, fostering independence, and ensuring equitable access to the educational environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitate Communication: Provide interpretation services between students, teachers, and peers to support full access to classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities.
  • Collaborate with ARD Committees: Work with ARD teams to contribute to the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to students’ specific communication and educational needs.
  • Support Instructional Goals: Collaborate with educators to ensure that instructional content is accessible to students through accurate and clear interpretation of spoken language into ASL and vice versa.
  • Monitor Progress: Assist in tracking and reporting student engagement and progress in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
  • Promote Accessibility: Advocate for the use of assistive technologies and accommodations that support effective communication, such as captioning, video relay services, and hearing devices.
  • Encourage Independence: Foster students’ self-advocacy skills by modeling effective communication strategies and supporting their participation in the classroom and extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Actively participate in ARD meetings, staff planning sessions, and multidisciplinary discussions to ensure alignment with students’ goals and needs.
